Marilyn & Josh

In today's internet-driven world, photographs are often glanced at within seconds, with many people appreciating their aesthetics but few taking the time to delve deeper into their meaning. As an artist, I find joy in creating photographs that hold significance for the subjects involved. Without meaning, a beautiful photo remains just that - beautiful. However, by infusing storytelling and meaning into the image, its value is greatly amplified.

The Flower

The presence of flowers in the photograph serves as a metaphor for love. Throughout literature and poetry, love is often compared to a blooming flower, signifying its growth and flourishing nature over time. The different stages of a flower's development, from bud to full bloom, symbolize the various stages of a relationship. The full bloom represents the pinnacle of love and affection. This metaphor also conveys the fragility and beauty inherent in love, as flowers can be delicate and ephemeral.

Interestingly, flowers serve as an apt representation of true love. To the subjects of the photograph, love is about choosing each other amidst life's calm and storms alike. It encompasses accommodating one another's needs and desires. A poignant example of this is Josh's gesture of buying Marilyn dandelion seeds instead of flowers, knowing her preference lies with the latter. This act highlights their commitment to nurturing a lasting relationship, demonstrating that accommodating each other is crucial.

While many people tend to portray love as a fairytale ending, the reality is that love is messy, complicated, and far from perfect. Personally, I am captivated by the idea of capturing love in its purest form through photography. I aim to freeze those fleeting moments in time, regardless of the stage of love they represent. By doing so, we can revisit those moments long after they have passed, rediscovering overlooked details and rekindling forgotten emotions.

In essence, through my photography, I strive to move beyond mere aesthetics and encourage viewers to contemplate the deeper meaning behind the images. By incorporating storytelling and metaphor, I aim to evoke emotions, prompt reflection, and emphasize the value of meaningful connections in a world that often favors the superficial.
