Relationships is a lot like building muscles. If you want to build muscles, you need to invest time to workout. It's not just doing 100 reps just for one day and you will see muscle growth. It's about doing maybe 20 reps but consistently for many months to see results. So if you want your relationship to grow, invest in your relationship consistently.
