Rico and Jia Yi’s Fullerton Hotel Wedding: Mahjong, Personal Vows and a Room Full of Life

Some of the moments I enjoyed most at Rico and Jia Yi’s wedding happened around them: friends throwing themselves into the games, laughter filling a room, and guests raising their glasses together. Alongside all that energy were quieter exchanges, embraces at home and personal vows at Fullerton Hotel. I wanted the photographs to make room for both.

A few quiet moments at home

The morning photographs begin with Jia Yi holding her dress, surrounded by red double-happiness decorations. There are smiles, but also time for close embraces. Those smaller exchanges give the story a different pace before the celebrations gather momentum.

Mahjong, dancing and laughter on the court

The gatecrashing games took place on a sunny outdoor court. Mahjong motifs appeared on the game table, while Rico and his friends lined up for the dancing. The bridesmaids’ reactions were as much a part of the scene as the men taking on the challenges.

What I liked was how readily everyone joined in. There were expressions everywhere: a look across the table, a burst of laughter, friends watching each other and getting involved. It gave me a lot to work with as their photographer.

The doorway, the cheers, and a moment together

Back at the house, Rico arrived at the bedroom doorway carrying the bouquet. Jia Yi was waiting in her dress and veil, and their friends soon crowded around with phones raised, cheering them on. That spontaneous celebration was one of the moments that stayed with me.

There were gentler photographs too: the two of them sharing a moment over red bowls, then holding hands beneath the white steelwork of the bridge. I like keeping these frames alongside the livelier ones. Together, they tell more of the day.

Personal vows at Fullerton Hotel

The red ribbon on the vow booklets became a small visual thread through the ceremony photographs. First, it sits beside the rings; later, Jia Yi holds the booklet as she reads to Rico beneath the canopy.

Their personal vows were especially memorable for me. Jia Yi dabbed beneath her eye as she listened to Rico, with a smile returning in the moments that followed. The photographs move from the words being read to the ring exchange and a kiss, with the people closest to the ceremony gathered behind them.

The rain belongs in this part of the story too. Outside Fullerton, it swept across the paving and the row of blue planters. That photograph gives the sequence a pause before we move into the evening celebration.

A dinner with everyone in the picture

White flowers, a pale tiered cake and the sweeping staircases set the scene for dinner. The welcome sign carried Rico and Jia Yi’s names and their wedding date, 18 July 2026. Then the couple came down the staircase together, smiling and waving.

The celebration soon filled with raised glasses, laughter and guests joining in. This is something I enjoy about wedding photography: paying attention to the whole room. The couple are at the centre of it, and the people celebrating with them bring so much to the photographs.

Words of thanks, and the people listening

During the speeches, Rico and Jia Yi thanked their parents, families and friends. Those words brought another side of the evening into focus. Alongside the photographs at the lectern, I wanted to keep the faces of the people listening: a quiet look towards the lectern, hands held together, and a smile as the evening unfolded.

Having everyone together like this is rare. What stays with me is the mix of it all: the games and cheers, the vows, and the time taken to thank the people who helped them reach this day. It was an honour to photograph it.
