Choosing where to shoot your pre-wedding is one of the most fun parts of planning, and one of the most over-thought. After 15 years and hundreds of weddings, we've learnt that the best location isn't the one with the most likes on Instagram. It's the one that fits the two of you, the light on the day, and the small logistics nobody tells you about, like permits, crowds, and how far you'll really walk in heels.

There's a reason so many couples gravitate towards nature for their pre-wedding: lush greenery, soft natural light and open skies are flattering, relaxed and timeless in a way no studio backdrop can match. So this guide focuses on Singapore's best natural settings, from gardens and parks to heritage greenery and beaches. For each one, we'll share what it's actually like to shoot there, the permit and timing details that matter, and honest pointers so your day feels relaxed rather than rushed.

A quick word before you pick a location

Most couples start with the backdrop. We'd gently suggest starting with the feeling. Do you want lush and romantic, clean and architectural, or fun and editorial? Pick the mood first, and the location almost chooses itself. A few things worth knowing up front:

  • Light beats location. A simple spot in beautiful morning light will out-photograph a famous spot under harsh noon sun every time. Early morning and the hour before sunset are gold.

  • Crowds are real. The well-known spots are well-known for a reason, and so everyone else wants them too. Weekday mornings are your friend.

  • Permits exist for a reason, and they're usually easy. Most public parks are fine for a personal shoot; a few venues need a quick application. We'll flag which is which below, and we handle this for our couples so it's never your headache.

Singapore Botanic Gardens, timeless, lush, romantic

If you want classic romance, soft greenery, dappled light and a sense of calm, it's hard to beat the Botanic Gardens. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the variety within it is huge: open lawns, tucked-away garden corners, heritage architecture and quiet lakes all in one space. It photographs as effortlessly elegant, and the greenery flatters every outfit. It's popular, so weekends get busy. We almost always shoot here early, when the soft morning light before the crowds arrive makes the difference between a calm shoot and a stressful one. Admission is free, and casual personal sessions don't need a permit, but commercial photography requires prior approval from NParks, submitted at least 14 days in advance. We sort this out for you in the background

Fort Canning Park, heritage, staircases and that tree tunnel

Fort Canning is the city-centre hideaway that feels worlds away: colonial staircases, brick textures, leafy paths, and the famous Fort Canning Tree Tunnel with its spiral staircase, one of the most photographed spots in Singapore. It has heritage character with a green, romantic softness, and pairs beautifully with a nearby second location for variety. The Tree Tunnel is very popular, with queues of 30 minutes to over an hour even early, so if it's a must-have we go at first light on a weekday and move efficiently. Fort Canning Park is free and open 24 hours, with park lighting roughly 7am to 7pm. As with all NParks spaces, a professional shoot may need prior approval, which we manage for you.

Coney Island Park, wild, rustic and a little adventurous

For couples who want something more raw and natural, coastal forest, grassy trails, driftwood and rustic textures, Coney Island is a gem. It feels worlds away from the city skyline, with a relaxed, slightly adventurous mood that suits couples who would rather laugh and wander than pose stiffly. It's a real nature park, so come prepared: comfortable shoes, insect repellent, and the understanding that you'll walk a fair bit between spots, with no shelter from sudden rain. It's free to enter and open 7am to 7pm daily, with gates closing after 7pm to protect the wildlife. Access is on foot via the East or West link bridges. As with other NParks sites, a professional shoot may need prior approval, which we arrange for you.

Gardens by the Bay, high-impact and modern

If your taste runs more dramatic, Gardens by the Bay delivers visuals nowhere else in Singapore can: the Supertree Grove, the Cloud Forest, the futuristic conservatories. It's bold, modern and makes for striking, magazine-style images, especially indoors at the Conservatories where the weather is never a problem. The outdoor areas are public and busy, and shooting inside the attractions has rules and a fee structure, so a little planning goes a long way. For shoots inside the attractions, Gardens by the Bay offers a Personal Photoshoot package from $188 nett (including admission to two attractions, buggy transfer and complimentary parking; add-ons like a third attraction cost extra). Couples wanting the conservatories to themselves can book exclusive pre-opening use from $697.60 on weekdays or $1,308 on weekends for a one-hour session. We'll advise on which option suits your shot list.

East Coast Park, breezy beach and open skies

If you picture sea breeze, open horizons and golden-hour light on the water, East Coast Park is Singapore's go-to beach setting. Wide, unblocked views and a laid-back coastal feel make it perfect for a relaxed, romantic shoot, and the casual vibe puts even camera-shy partners at ease. It is a busy public park, with joggers, cyclists and picnickers especially on weekends, so early morning is by far the best time for calm, clean frames and soft golden light. It's free and open 24 hours, with park lighting from 7pm to 7am. No permit is needed for a basic beach shoot, though larger groups or professional sessions at NParks sites may require prior approval submitted about two weeks ahead, which we handle for our couples.

Thinking bigger? Overseas pre-weddings (Lovescapade)

Some couples want their pre-wedding to double as a getaway. Our Lovescapade overseas shoots take you somewhere meaningful, a city you love or a landscape that moves you, and turn the trip itself into part of the story. If a local park doesn't feel quite like you, this might.

How to choose between them

Want timeless and romantic? Botanic Gardens. Heritage and character? Fort Canning. Wild and adventurous? Coney Island. Bold and modern? Gardens by the Bay. Breezy beach and open skies? East Coast Park. And a getaway with a story? A Lovescapade overseas shoot. You don't have to pick just one, many of our couples pair two nearby locations in a single session for variety, and we'll help you build a route that flows without feeling rushed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for a pre-wedding shoot in Singapore? Often yes, but it's usually straightforward. Public parks under NParks (like Botanic Gardens, Fort Canning, Coney Island and East Coast Park) require prior approval for professional photography, submitted at least 14 days ahead. Indoor venues like Gardens by the Bay's attractions have their own packages and fees. We handle the permits for our couples so you don't have to.

What's the best time of day for a pre-wedding shoot? Early morning, hands down: better light, fewer crowds, cooler weather. The hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset give the softest, most flattering light.

How long should a pre-wedding photoshoot be? Most couples do well with 2 to 4 hours, which comfortably covers one to two locations and an outfit change. We'll recommend the right length once we know your locations and shot list.

How far in advance should I book? For popular dates and weekends, 6 to 9 months ahead is wise. Weekday slots are easier to secure and often calmer to shoot.

Let's plan a shoot that feels like you

The best pre-wedding photos don't come from the fanciest location, they come from two people who feel relaxed, well-guided and genuinely themselves in front of the camera.
